NFL considering rule change to invalidate Ravens’ controversial strategy
The NFL Competition Committee is considering a rule change for 2017 that would eliminate the possibility of teams unfairly manipulating the game clock.
According to ESPN, the league would make illegal the controversial strategy used by the Ravens to beat the Bengals in their Week 12 game last season, in which Baltimore took advantage of the rules to keep Cincinnati from getting the ball late in the game.
The Ravens — leading 19-12 with 11 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter — had most of their special teams players blatantly hold defenders while punter Sam Koch ran out the clock and end the game on a safety. Since the penalties were committed by the offense, the game ended without Cheap Eagles Jerseys Cincinnati getting a chance at a potential game-winning return or offensive play.
Under the proposed rule change, such a play would result in a 15-yard penalty on the offense and the clock would be reset to the time the play began.
You know all about Cano, the superstar who hit 39 homers and had a 7.3 WAR in 2016, but did you realize Seager hit 30 homers and had a 6.9 WAR? Yeah. Those guys are elite. It’ll be interesting to see what Segura does after his trade from a hitter-friendly park in Arizona to a pitcher-friendly park in Seattle. He has played at least 142 games four seasons in a row, and here are his WAR numbers, in order: 4.0, 0.6, 0.0, 5.7. That’s quite the roller coaster. The Mariners are obviously hoping he’s more like his 2016 self, when he had 20 homers, 33 stolen bases and a .319 average for the Diamondbacks. In an ideal world, Vogelbach — who had a .923 OPS and 23 homers in 133 Triple-A games last year — secures the starting job at first base and Valencia is able to use his versatility to help around the diamond.
