LOOK: Johnny Manziel is 21st name added to sad Browns QB jersey
The jersey hangs in a window in downtown Cleveland and serves as a constant reminder that the Browns actually do one thing well: They produce horrible quarterbacks.
Manziel will be the 21st player to start at quarterback for the Browns since 1999, the most in the NFL during that time period.
Just to review, here’s the name of every quarterback listed on the jersey.
Couch, Ty Detmer, Doug Pederson, Spergon Wynn, Kelly Holcomb, Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, Trent Dilfer, Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, Ken Dorsey, Bruce Gradkowski, Jake Delhomme, Colt McCoy, Seneca Wallace, Thad Lewis Brandon Weeden, Brian Hoyer and now Manziel.
Back in May, our very own Josh Katzowitz waded into the cesspool that is the Browns quarterback history and ranked the best quarterbacks since 1999.
The only free agent who switched teams this offseason and topped Tebow in jersey sales was former Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray. Tebow’s new teammate with the Eagles ranked ninth in jersey sales for the month of June.
Tebow probably would’ve ranked higher, but his numbers were clearly hurt by people who decided to make homemade jerseys.
Overall, Odell Beckham came in at No. 1, with Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota checking in at No. 2.
Jameis Winston tumbled down to No. 8 after ranking second in May.
At the end of the 2014 season, Rodgers was the leader in jersey sales throughout Wisconsin, and Bears quarterback Jay Cutler led sales in Illinois. Now, Forte leads in both states.
The top-selling jersey in the NFL is Joe Haden of the Browns, followed by the Giants’ Odell Beckham and Colts’ Andrew Luck.
Chicago hosts Green Bay on Sunday at Soldier Field.
